もったいない
What is Mottoinai?
もったいない is what the Japanese say when something good is wasted needlessly.
It is not a word about saving money. It is about respect for what already exists — for the work it took to make a thing, and for the time of whoever uses it.
A gi that lasts ten years instead of two. A session that is not wasted. A fall that teaches something instead of just being a fall.
In the lining, where nobody sees
The art goes inside. Outside stays the essential — what survives training and distracts nobody. Inside is the story, known only to whoever wears it.
